Sawyer’s Crystal Blueing was a Victorian-era laundry product used to keep white fabrics brilliantly white by countering yellowing — a household staple from the 1880s into the early 1900s. This bottle did its job, then spent decades on a New York City beach while the ocean transformed its surface into something that closely resembles authentic sea glass: a deep, matte, luminous frosting that is completely unreplicable by etching or treatment. The result is a Victorian utilitarian object that now carries a century of natural history in its surface.

Embossing: SAWYER’S CRYSTAL BLUEING on the front face, still crisp and legible beneath the ocean frosting.

Condition shows intentional, beautiful beach wear. The all-over frosting is genuine ocean wear from decades of shoreline exposure — the same process that creates authentic sea glass. No chips or cracks. The micro-texture and matte glow are consistent with genuine sea wear and are exactly what makes this piece singular.

Dimensions: 7.75" H × 3.25" W × 1.5" D | Clear glass with heavy ocean frosting | Sea-worn beach-found condition

Style it on an apothecary shelf alongside medicine bottles and vintage household glass, where the frosted surface reads as aged and intentional. The form works as a bud vase for dried botanicals in a windowsill where backlight catches the frosted texture. A natural for Cottagecore and grandmacore displays, and a legitimate collector piece for both Victorian household glass enthusiasts and sea glass collectors — it sits at the intersection of both.

Recovered from New York City’s historic shorelines and landfill sites by Brooklyn Sea Glass. Ships carefully packed.
