Gimpel Farm was a dairy operation based in Maspeth, Queens — one of the small neighborhood dairies that supplied New York City households through the postwar era before consolidation eliminated most local operations by the 1960s. Like Holland Dairy, also from Maspeth, Gimpel represents the dense network of local dairy distribution that once existed within the five boroughs. This half-pint bottle carries the GIMPEL embossing alongside the DEPOSIT and HALF-PINT LIQUID markings standard on returnable dairy glass, and the C STORE marking indicating commercial rather than residential delivery.
Embossing: GIMPEL dairy name on the body; DEPOSIT and HALF-PINT LIQUID capacity marking; C STORE commercial use designation.
Condition is good with authentic age-appropriate patina consistent with ground recovery. No chips or cracks. Embossing is sharp and fully readable throughout.
Dimensions: 5.25" H × 2.5" W | Clear glass | Good vintage condition with honest patina
The Maspeth Queens attribution and the commercial store designation give this bottle a specific local NYC history that generic dairy bottles lack. Works on a farmhouse kitchen shelf or windowsill as a bud vase for dried wildflowers, in a local NYC dairy history collection alongside other Queens-attributed glass, or as a Cottagecore accent where the neighborhood provenance adds genuine local character.
Recovered from New York City’s historic shorelines and landfill sites by Brooklyn Sea Glass. Ships carefully packed.
