Lord Calvert’s “Men of Distinction” advertising campaign ran through the 1940s and 1950s in major American publications, featuring accomplished figures from Broadway, Hollywood, diplomacy, and international society who were depicted as Lord Calvert drinkers — a positioning strategy that made the brand synonymous with mid-century American aspiration. The Canadian blend was produced by Calvert Distillers and marketed specifically to the postwar American consumer who saw imported Canadian whisky as a mark of taste. This flat amber flask is one of the most recognizable forms from that campaign era: the embossed MEN OF DISTINCTION panel on the front face is the detail that separates it from standard Lord Calvert production.
Embossing: LORD CALVERT on the front face; MEN OF DISTINCTION on the front panel; ONE PINT capacity marking; distillers attribution on the body. Base carries production markings.
Condition is excellent with minor surface scratches and light wear consistent with age. No chips or cracks. The amber glass is clean and the embossing is crisp and fully readable throughout.
Dimensions: 8.75" H × 3.75" W × 1.75" D | Amber glass | Excellent vintage condition with minor surface scratches
The flat flask form is one of the most display-friendly shapes in vintage bottle collecting — it stands cleanly on a narrow bar cart shelf, angles naturally at a slight lean, and works across a wide range of styling contexts. The MEN OF DISTINCTION embossing gives it an immediately legible mid-century American cultural identity that generic amber bottles lack. Works alongside dark wood and aged brass in a Neo Deco arrangement, as a bud vase for a single tall dried stem, or as the centerpiece of a Lord Calvert or mid-century American whisky collection.
Recovered from New York City’s historic shorelines and landfill sites by Brooklyn Sea Glass. Ships carefully packed.
